About Brad
Brad Allen’s professional communications career spans more than three decades across journalism, government, politics and industry, with much of the focus on investor relations and corporate communications. He established the IR and corporate communications functions at Imation Corp. after its spin-off from 3M Company in 1996. Prior to Imation, he led the IR function at Cray Research and at Digital Equipment Corp. where he started his IR career. After more than 25 years on the firing line in Investor Relations, he launched BDAllen Company in 2009 to help organizations and entrepreneurs on investor relations, communications strategy and positioning.
His blog site, RiskRewardNews.com, is an on-line conversation about how companies can effectively communicate their risk/reward profile in the evolving capital markets in the 21st century. He also writes about the capital markets, the economy, communications and investor relations for national and regional publications including Corporate Secretary Magazine, Investor Relations Magazine, Finance & Commerce, Twin Cities Business Magazine, MinnPost and Reuters.
He is an adjunct instructor in investor relations in the Opus College of Business graduate school of management at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis and is a frequent speaker on IR, crisis communications and business ethics. Allen served as Chairman of the NIRI (National Investor Relations Institute; 1996 – 1997) and chaired the NIRI Ethics Council 2006- 2009.
